Firm History

Johannson, Rust, Stock & Rasmusson, P.A. has been providing quality legal service in Northern Minnesota and Eastern North Dakota since 1932, when John W. Padden (deceased), a former President of the Minnesota State Bar Association, founded our firm. The firm's current attorneys are admitted to practice in Minnesota and North Dakota State and Federal Courts, and serve a 24-county area. Our attorneys concentrate in various areas of law, allowing the firm to provide a wide range of legal services. Among the areas of concentration are insurance defense and coverage issues; personal injury/wrongful death litigation; product liability; medical and professional malpractice; real estate and commercial transactions; farm, general business and tax planning; estate planning, probate and trusts; agricultural and cooperative law; family law; and criminal law.

Current shareholders include Daniel Rust, Charles Stock and Anne Rasmusson. The firm's associate is Tracey Knutson. Kenneth Johannson continues to practice part-time. Non-attorney staff members include Diane Magnuson, Marlys Mjoen, Michelle Newman, Jamie Cassavant, Rachel Klatt and Tiffany Isaacson.

In December 1998, longtime shareholder, Richard C. Taylor, left the firm to assume duties as District Judge for the Minnesota Ninth Judicial District. Mr. Taylor was appointed by Governor Arne Carlson. In May 2006, Tamara Yon, also a former shareholder, was also appointed District Court Judge for the Ninth Judicial District by Governor Tim Pawlenty.

Kenneth Johannson has been selected as a "Minnesota Leading Attorney" in accident and personal injury law. Daniel Rust was named one of Minnesota's "Super Lawyers" by Minnesota Law and Politics.

Representative firm clients include agri-business corporations, area banks and lending institutions, Dahlgren & Company, Phoenix Industries, J.R. Simplot Company, Diocese of Crookston and area insurance companies. Most importantly, we are proud to represent hundreds of local individuals, families and businesses.

The firm has a long-standing involvement in the work of the Minnesota State Bar Association. In addition, the firm's attorneys are actively involved in community, civic and religious organizations and serve on many area boards.
